Jack Jemison (b. 2003, Myrtle Beach, SC) uses photography to explore the semiotics of the American South’s material culture and built environment through an expressive, yet analytical lens. Jack holds BAs in Studio Art and Urban Studies from the College of Charleston and resides in North Charleston, South Carolina.

1. With All That’s Withheld

“With All That’s Withheld” seeks to explore the semiotic system of the American South through photography. Drawing on antique stores, museums, and similar spaces throughout South Carolina, artifacts and architecture were photographed initially as a means of documenting the region's material culture. Through the intervention of artificial light, use of vivid color, and selective sequencing, the series was realized not as outward survey, but as an inward reflection on the artist's own place in the South amongst its symbols. This selection from the series was shown at the College of Charleston's Fall 2025 Senior Thesis Exhibition.
